Amateur Recording

To make a good sound recording, nothing beats good microphone placement. This is often just getting the microphone as close as possible to the source of sound. Sometimes this is not possible. Maybe if you are recording a group of people in a drama and you cannot get close to all of them at once, if you are recording quiet music, maybe a small classical group and cannot be close.

If you record sound effects, vehicles, trains or background sounds and ambiences, it will always help if you can get a good level onto tape or disc.

Some domestic recorders do not have enough gain and that is exactly what the 3.5 Series preamps are designed to help with, boosting the microphone level by a fixed 20 dB. They just plug between the microphone and recorder, needing no batteries or other power supply, they have no level control or other adjustments and are extremely small and light in weight.
